Writing

Poetry, short stories, technical manuals, plays, scripts, publicity material – I like to think of myself as a journeyman writer, able to turn my hand, pen and keyboard to anything. Other parts of the website tell you about the poetry; here's some of the other stuff.

• One-act play, Once this was a poet , awarded 2008 Gloucestershire Dramatic Association One-Act Play Festival prize for best original play, and GDA One Act Playwriting Award, 2007-8.
• One-act play, Once this was a poet,  performed as part of Cheltenham Literature Festival, 2008 and booked for Ledbury Poetry Festival, 2009.
• Wrote linking script for a schools' singing event ( Time to Sing project) for Cheltenham Music Festival, summer 2008.
• Educational material about school writing clubs for BBC Everybody Writes website, March 2007.
• Linking script for a schools' singing event (Amerisong project) for Cheltenham Music Festival, summer 2007. The history of the USA in 20 minutes!
• One-act play, Don't give it another thought, awarded Gloucestershire Dramatic Association prize for best one-act play, 2005-2006, and Best Original Play prize as part of Cheltenham One-Act Play Festival, 2007.
• I ran a two-day Technical Writing Skills course, which I have devised myself, for GCHQ; 14 courses, 2001-2006.
• Creative words co-ordinator with Birmingham Early Years, February-March 2005, working with children aged 0-3. As part of this project I wrote a guidance book, One Thousand Chances, to be used by all Birmingham nursery school staff.
• Publicity and funding applications writing for ArtShape, Gloucester, 2004-5.
• Short scripts for BBC Call My Bluff television programme, 2000 – 2003.
• Several short stories.
